Born on September 14, 1955, in Chicago, Illinois, Pope Leo XIV is a member of the Order of St. Augustine. He holds degrees in theology and canon law, with studies completed at Villanova University, the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago, and the Pontifical University of St. Thomas Aquinas in Rome.
His extensive missionary work in Peru, where he served as bishop of Chiclayo from 2014 to 2023, highlights his commitment to pastoral care and social justice. In 2023, he was appointed prefect of the Dicastery for Bishops, overseeing the selection of bishops worldwide.
